You may want to think about getting an 870 rifled barrel/field barrel combo in 12 gauge. The 12 gauge has more shot capacity and power for waterfowl and is easier (and less expensive) to find a great variety of waterfowl loads for. For deer the 12 gauge is a much better choice with buckshot because of the increased pellet count. The increased payload capacity is also better for turkeys, which may be a hunting option. I started with a 12 gauge and really didn't find it too much gun for my small frame.

If your looking for a cheaper gun, and at 12 years old I'm guessing you are, I would look into the H&R guns. They have many different calibers of rifles and shotguns and even muzzleloader barrels that interchange. These guns are very accurate for as inexpensive as they are. I have a .30/06, a .204, a .500 S&W, and 20 gauge rifled bull barrel. The 20 gauge with Hornady SST Slugs will accurately shoot 200+ yards with plenty of power to put 'em down. It's only a single shot but still a great gun for the money.
