I have an opportunity to go out duck hunting with some work friends. Before i do i want to make sure i have the right stuff. Im trying to make sure my chokes will be able to shoot steel. I have had a mossberg 500A pump with what im pretty sure is the accu-choke set that comes with it. According to mossberg website i should be able to shoot steel and other non-toxics through them but i wanna be extra sure i can so i dont crack a tube. Tube sets are $100 easy so hopefully mine work to save me a little money. Any help or advice will be much appreciated. Thank you.

Modified is the choke you want to use with steel. Not only is the pressure less than full but it usually gives a better pattern.

Don't worry, they would have a difficult time selling the concept of removable chokes or steel shot if shot destroyed them. Any choke will work but as OH says, modified is the preferred choke for steel.

the choke that came with your gun are almost certainly fine. in a perfect world you'd have time to pattern them before you hunted, but a modified or improved cylinder choke is the way to go if you're hunting ducks over decoys.

The only time you have to worry about steel shot tearing up you shotgun or any of its pieces is if you have a very old gun.
