cleaned up an old shotgun (Pardner 20gauge single shot) While not the greatest gun has a lot of sentimental value to my girlfriend because it was her first gun. The gun got lost in an attic where it rusted up pretty good on the outside(inside the barrel is suprisingly in very good shape) Well after a lot of scrubbing with steel wool I've got the barrel clean of all rust now I'm wondering what I should do or put on the barrel to preserve the metal?

Brownell sells Oxyblue. Blends very well and is a durable cold rust bluing. Rub on with fine steel wool. It will get between the steel and the rust on a microscopic level.

Ah have used Plum Brown with good results on old guns.

It is a good antique finish.
