looking to get a new shotgun for Turkey season, I'm between a mossberg 500 and a Remington 870. Any suggestions would be helpfu

If I had to pick it would a 15Y-old Rem 870, not a New ChiRem! MB/500 are better to day then ever...just saying

870, mossberg has always been the company that supplies decent equipment for a lower price, however, the 870 is a better all around gun that boasts a nicer finish, higher quality metal, and solidity and toughness the mossberg cannot promise. especially since you said new shotgun which makes me think you already have one and are looking for an upgrade.

Just to differ i say the 500. I have one and i like it. Never failed. I also have a 870 wingmaster. Never had much of a problem except broken firing pin but that is bound to happen once in your life if you shoot enough. Some of my friend have some newer 870 expresses. They don't work good at all. They keep good care of their guns but the 870 just doesn't work for them. I would get the 500, but if you go for the 870, get a wingmaster.

they are both quality guns, the key will be to get your hands on both and see how they feel. buy the one that is most comfortable because that is the one you will shoot the best. personally I own a 500 and absolutely love it, I've used it to hunt anything and everything; pheasants, ducks, geese, coyotes, doves, ect. I've put it through the worst conditions such as dirt, mud, sand, rain, snow, and ice and I've never had a single malfunction even with minimal cleaning. but as I said they are both quality products, buy the one that's most comfortable in your hands

Get the 870 because they cost less and is made by a better brand. you can also use it for other game to other than turkeys. deer, rabbit, squirrel, dove.

If you have the extra money go with the 870 wingmaster I used my dads forever than finally bought my own shotgun an express and it's half the gun the wingmaster is. I have never shot a pump that cycled as well as the wingmaster or handled as well. I killed my first deer with a wingmaster.
