A shooting acquaintance cracked the stock of his Remington Nylon 66, but was unable to adequately describe how it happened...which leads me to think that weather extremes had nothing to do with it.

The Hogue stocks on my Howa 1500 and Ruger 10/22 have been subjected to multiseasonal conditions and they're fine. A Ram-Line stock on one of the M98 Mausers looks as good as the day I purchased it.

Never had one crack but they sure chip like crazy. Wood stocks tend to dent with hits on rocks and the like. Synthetic stocks chip. However, I have had wood stocks crack with recoil.

Someone on this site said he had water in his butt stock. I think he said it was a shotgun and he was wondering how to get it out.

I just realized how ridiculous that was of me because I just realized this is in Shotguns. I guess that was a premature senior moment
