I had a .50 cal black powder with a build up of sabot plastic. I used Gumout and a bore brush. Worked good but don't get it on wood.

Being the Dept. Armorer I had to take care of the Officer's shotguns too and we did alot of training and they shot alot of shotgun shells. Their shotguns got alot of plastic buildup in them. I had a cleaning rod that I put in an electric drill and with a bronze brush and Carbon Blast by Break Free I removed the buildup. It works alot better than brushing by hand. It usually took several times in the solvent and quite a bit of brushing to get rid of the plastic.

I use a Tornado brush - bought it years ago and it does wonders against plastic and lead fouling. One cautionary note - the brush is made of steel, albeit with rounded bristles, and is harder on the barrel than brass or copper brushes, so I only use it when it's really bad.
