Shooting a deer and then watching it run away for 70 yards is NOT good. For one, the meat is now tainted with the massive amounts of adrenaline that the deer generated before it expired. If you are doing what you are supposed to do, that deer should drop in it's tracks. Take the shot but do it right the first time.

30-06 has the most common variety of grains and the 308 has a consistent bullet pattern. But I go with 243 in most situations or secondly the 30-06 they can handle almost every scenario if you know what your doing (obviously you don't).

    P.S
this is my rifle, there are many like it but this one is mine...without my rifle i am useless, my rifle without me is useless

Updated bought a Rem 700 BDL in 300 ultra mag and it is outstanding!finally a 300mag from remington that lives up the the hype. 1.5 first trip MOA last two trips a bit of cleaning and some tightening highly recommend swift scirocco 180ss

I have not had very good luck with Rem 700s in calibers over 3006 three seperate 300 win mags would not group with any brand of ammunition in under 7 inches, however I have Rem 700s in 3006 and 270 that will print those tiny little clusters that bring us those warm and fuzzy feelings.I recently bought a winchester model 70 super grade in 300 win mag that gives a stellar proformance everytime I ask it too.I am very impressed with this rifle and recommend it highly, one draw back is the 1200 dollar price tag

I like a .284 or a .280 ackley improved. The has .284 better performance than a .270 but in a short action and is good for deer way farther out than a 30-30. then the .280 Al is only ever so slightly slower than a 7mm mag but much less recoil and a better ballistic coefficient.

MEXHUNTER my dad swears by his 7mm too its very accurate and anything he has ever shot with it falls where it stood. He also places the bullet where he wants it to go everytime. He shoots it well. Any gun you can kill a deer with quickly with is a good deer rifle.
