What is the best deer hunting rifle?

  • #2
I love a good .270 or even .243. I used a .243 with 100 grains this year and hit a nine point in the lung through brush and it ran only 70 yards. 30-06 and 30-30's work well too but I do love a .270.

25-06 is a great flat shooting rifle but still as a lot of power.

If your hunting anywhere were there is heavy cover and the most you will be able to shoot is around seventy-five yards tops, no other gun beats a lever action 30-.30. This is the perfect gun, it's short, light, and can easily take down a deer. I would reccomend getting a raised scope, so you can still use the iron sights for shorter shots

This is hard question because I believe it all depends on the environment you hunt in. For northern NY with the dense woods and small fields I love my light weight short barreled guns like a 7mm-08.

30.06 will bring down any game animal in North America. F & S, posted an article I believe in the Dec issue where one of their writers brought his 30.06 to Africa and did very well there and harvested rather large game. It all depends on the ammo at that point, which with this caliber round there are more available in more places. It also has a longer range and knock down power over a 30.30

Ruger M77 Hawkeye All-Weather in .308 Winchester...it's light, accurate and durable. Great rig for all around hunting.

It all depends on the terrain but where I hunt is extreme brush. My favorite 30-30 pump. However my friend loves his 7mm for field shooting.

My opinion is the 308 Winchester.

Depends on where u r hunting. anything from 30-30 to a .308 would work good

You'll never get a good answer on this one. the correct answer is anything that you can accuratly shoot and I would recommend 25 caliber or above. I like a 300 or 338 win mag but I'm a sadist for recoil and it's way overkill for a lil ole whitetail

Sarge, that is a rough break. Did the infected come down with symptoms after leaving camp? They say incubation is 7 to 10 days. Are they over it ?...
