What rifle cartridge kicks the same amount as a 12 gauge slug?

I was wondering the same. -
A twelve ga kicks alot, alot harder than a 338 or a 300 mag. there is alot of powder moving a heavy object at a slow speed. it kicks very high compared to a rifle.Comment

Need a lot more info. What kind of 12 gauge you talking about? Single shot, pump, semi-auto? How heavy of a slug? How Fast?Comment

i am not the most experienced shooter when it comes to really big calibers but i recently shot a .340 mag, this is the largest i have shot, and i have never shot anything that even remotely compares to the recoil of a 12 ga slug.Comment

I tried a couple of different ballistics calcs and they come up with different numbers. They are all pretty brutal. I came up with numbers that approximate something in the range of a .338 Win Mag to a .375 H&H... in other words two rounds that can pretty much take anything angry on this planet.
It's an interesting question. Anyone else got a more definite guesstimate????Comment

my best guesse would be a 460 weatherby mag, i don't think a 338 win even comes close.Comment

I compare my .375 H&H recoil to a typical 12 gauge with slugs. The 12 gauge is an 870 Rem and the .375 weighs 11 pounds with scope shooting 270g-300g fairly hot loads. Both produce a recoil that is a firm push rather than a hot POP like that is produced by such 8 pound rifles as .270 WSM, 7MM Rem or a 300 Win Mag.Comment
