Does anybody know of a good brand to buy a muzzle loader from?

Depending on how much u wanna spend on a muzzle loader u can check them out on cabelas.com.. I bought a CVA Optima Pro at Cabelas at got the 3-9x32 muzzle loader scope kit put on all for $300. I shot my first ever muzzle loader deer with it this october. It was a 2 yr old doe. I find my gun is most accurate with 100 grains of Triple Seven pellets and a Hornady Lock and Load sabot in 245 grains. I have the gun printing 1 1/2 inch groups at 125 yrds. With this set up I'm hitting 3 inches low at 200 yrds. It is entirely up to you on what brand u would like Remington's Genisis is another good gun for your money along with Winchester's Apex. You don't have to spend the $750 for a Thompson Center muzzle loader. As for the ammunition whichever ammo shoots best in your gun is the one I'd use.I hope this helps a little bit sorry if I typed a bit of a story just wanted to give my experience.

I have long been a Thompson Center fan and customer. They put a lot of attention to detail in their products, build great guns, and are friendly and helpful with any problems.
They stand behind their guns, even the kit guns.
Every year they send me info to use for teaching the muzzle loader rifle merit badge and hunter's safety.

CVA is a good choice for dependable and reasonably priced muzzleloaders. They also have several options that let you purchase centerfire barrels for the same frame. Their warranty program is excellent. Check out their web site at http://www.cva.com/ for a comparison of the new CVA Apex to the T/C Encore.

I have owned both Thompson Center and Knight. Both have been good rifles. I guess it all depends on how much you want to spend.

I like Knight for inlines, but if you will buy an encore then you will open up a much bigger single shot rifle that you can have anything you want, as long as its a single shot...

CVA of Thompson are the most popular but I lean towards Thompson because of how easy they have made muzzleloading. With a Thompson, muzzleloading becomes much simpler than what it once was.

I agree with the above CVA makes a good muzzleloader and for a less constricted budget a Thompson center Omega or similar are great choices (have experience with CVA, performed excellently.)

I'm very happy with my Thompson/Center Omega Z5 and the price was right.
