  • Feral hogs kill woman!

Had a problem deciding just where to post this.
    Then a light came on!
Every hunter in the videos uses an AR15 or AR10.

Why do you "need" a hi-cap 20 or 30 round mag?
    Here's why.
I've seen sounders right here in OK with more than 80 pigs!

Here is a quote from an article I recently finished reading:

Texas may have the most wild hogs of any U.S. state, and the situation is expected to worsen, despite the $7 million per year that Texans spends to keep the animals' numbers down, the AP reports. A recent study by Texas A&M University found that the number of feral pigs is likely to triple in five years in the state of Texas if serious efforts aren't made to reduce feral-pig populations, according to the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal.

"If a feral-hog sow produces a dozen piglets, 13 survive," goes an old joke, according to the Avalanche-Journal. But feral-pig reproduction is no laughing matter. The animals may start reproducing when they’re just 6 months old, and their litters average about six sows, reports Mississippi State University. They produce an average of 1.5 litters per year.

For some reason I always felt this would happen, was worried it would be a kid.

        It ain't over yet!
In the link, there are several videos. One of them features a City of Dallas "Animal Control" officer. He traps 5 to 7 pigs a week!

Hopefully the poor gal had bacon or sausage for breakfast.
Maybe one of the pigs choke then on one of their own.

We had pigs on Grammy's farm.
Learned to hate them at an early age I did.

          Horrible way to go.

All pigs should be converted into chops.
          Just sayin'.

I don't understand states talk about what a terrible problem the hogs are and ranchers and farmers complain about the damage they do but when you try to go somewhere and shoot them they want to charge you an arm and a leg.

Well sarge01, when feral hogs became prominent, ranchers hadn't long come to the realization that their starvation wage ranches could actually make money selling deer hunts.
Then here came the hogs, destroying crops, competing for forage and spreading brucellosis and pseudo rabies.
So, to get rid of the hogs, they would allow people to come on and kill hogs ... for free.
Idiots left gates open, tore down fences, wounded/killed livestock, drove through crops, rutted pasture land and littered.
"Free" hunting was costing more than the hogs.
Then, when "personal responsibility" was overcome by personal injury lawyers, ranchers lost whole inherited family farms just because Johnny Paul hooked his scrotum crossing a fence ten feet from a gate and may never be able to have kids.
So, "liability" insurance became the norm.
Here we go, back to starvation wages and blossoming feral hog populations.

Solution: charge to hunt! Use the proceeds to pay for liability insurance and repair damage caused by pigs and hunters and maybe buy a Snicker down at "Myrtle & Rafe's"!
...but they are no longer "losing" money or property!

I can easily see your point Bubba, and it appears to be a two headed snake. So, with that all being understood, what is the answer to the hog fiasco ? With ranchers being caught in the middle of damned if you do, and damned if you don’t, just where is the starting point of a solution ? It would appear that the problem has already exploded to the point of no return and the future is only more of the same with endless boundaries ! Great for the hog’s outlook, but not for man’s !!

Yep sarge01, a real Mexican standoff! LOL!
I don't know that there is a "solution"!

No season, no bag limit, no license, calling, baiting, headlighting, hunting with dogs, night and thermal vision, what else can you do? Some sort of bounty? Like they did with wolves, so much per set of ears.

In Texas, they have legal helicopter hunts. Pig effective, just not cost effective.
Some guys pay big bucks to spend the day playing "door gunner".

If we could get the "animal lovers" to concede to the use of the pig specific toxin that Texas A&M has developed, we might get somewhere...but THAT ain't gonna happen in today's "woke" world!

If we could convince all hunters they taste like ice cream ... maybe? LOL!
