I'm not sure what a small firearm is. Do you mean like a BB gun or an airgun? Or a revolver or pistol? either way, practice is key to learning to shoot any firearm. get to know your guns and practice practice practice. learn what kind of hand loads or other ammunition shoots best out of your gun and take notes.

.22?? What do you mean by small firearms. I worked by a munitions factory and they considered small munitions to be anything below and including a 500lb bomb.

Go on the NRA website and look for the Basic Firearms classes. There will be an instructor in your area that will get you up to speed very quickly.

Find a target shooting instructor and join a rifle team. Worked for me.
