    Sub-MOA means less than 1/2 inch three or five shot groups at 100 yards. That is exceptional accuracy for an over-the-counter rifle. Most barrels produced by our top five barrel makers are quite capable of this level of accuracy with no doubt. Their barrels are all air gauged to ensure that each conforms to a very high level of quality and accuracy. They do of course have to be properly chambered, bedded and crowned using a decent receiver.

    That being said, more and more everyday rifles are capable of that with minor improvements such as glass/pillar bedding, adjustable triggers, tuned hand loads with highly accurate bullets and good scopes.

    There are many who feel this level of accuracy is really not achievable because their frame of reference comes from using;
    a) poor rifles,
    b) bullets that are not capable of that degree of accuracy
    c) factory ammo not tuned to their rifle, and
    d) inexpensive scopes that have too much parallax (i.e. point of aim changes as you move your eye behind the scope) to support such accuracy regardless of the rifle.

    On top of that, many of them have not learned to shoot well enough to accomplish that level of accuracy with a world class rifle and the best of components.

    It often means someone is shooting with their keyboard instead of an actual rifle

    moa means one inch at 100 yards, 2 inches at 200 yards, 3 inches at 300 yards, and so on. cut the inches in half and you have half moa.

    It means (for practical purposes) that a rifle or pistol will shoot a half-inch group at 100 yards.
