I use a bore snake. Wrap a patch around the bristles. Put a little rem oil on it, and then smear some JB NonEmbeding bore paste(or Remington Bore Cleaner) on the moist patch. Enter from the chamber and pull through. Examine bore and when copper residue is gone, pull clean, oiled patches through and then a clean patch to finish it off for storage.
If the gun has been in rain or snow, i use a small paint brush and flood the parts with clean kerosene. That displaces the water and leaves a very light oil. Store gun with muzzle down for several days to allow kero to dry.
