I like them both. Single shots often give a shorter overall package with the smae length barrel as a bolt which is a plus for me. With practice a person can reload their single shot with sufficient speed for most hunting tasks, but for most big game situations I still prefer the adavantage of a bolt action and a few rounds in a magazine. Most of my single shots have been varmint rifles such as a Ruger #1 in .204, while my Elk and Deer rifles remain bolt actions. I do have a wanting desire to try some Elk hunting with an old school single shot in 45-120 and a creedmore sight if my pocket book allows some day.

I like bolt but that is because I had a bad experience with a single shot 12ga. We were out rabbit hunting and I pulled up on a rabbit but it went over the crest of a hill. When I went to release the hammer it slipped and I accidently discharged the weapon and hurt my thumb. That was very dangerous and I am glad I did not hurt anyone.

I like my single shot CVA Optima because it has both muzzleloader and centerfire barrels. I enjoy the challenge of being restricted to one shot, it keeps me focused on the importance of making it count.
I do still prefer the bolt action for larger game like elk in rough country where a follow up shot can save a lot of time and trouble. I hope I get to go this year.

I like the single shots alot better. There are 2 main reason why and I will expleain them both. First off I like the single shot because they are alot more accurate. Now I may not know why they are more accurate but experience with both guns have taught me this. Second, with one shot it must be a good one. I feel that the whole one shot thing makes a better marksmen. I think younger shooters need to start out with single shots to teach good shooting habits.

I like them both, my first rifle was a bolt-action (took deer and elk) and have shot elk w/ a single shot Ruger #1, as for accuracy hunterkid, they are both so close even the "experts" can't decide which is better. If you feel more "accurate" with the single shot then that's the one you need to stick with for now, but please don't give up on those bolts young man you'll be missing out on a lot of fun if you do.
Good luck and Good hunting young man.

I go bolt action... I just don't want to treck all day and finally jump three coyotes and have to settle for getting only one while I am digging in my pocket for another round. I realize some super heros can reload their single shots fast but a bolt action is too slow for me at times. I can understand the sporting interest in giving them a chance and if that is what you want to do, the single shot is great and more challenging. Very few rifles shoot more accurately than my bolt action so that doesn't swing me.
