Is drilling and tapping holes in a .30-30 really worth it?

I scoped a Marlin 336C a number of years ago. Used a very careful hand load, cranked a 150 grainer to the max. I had a couple of other rifles, just wanted to see if I could do it. Was pleased with the results. I used a 3x9x40 Tasco. Today I would use a BSA in 2x7x40. BTW, if you haven't tried it with a scoped 30-30, you will be pleased.

Depends on what you are trying to hunt. I wouldn't because if you ever wanted to sell it it would decrease in value.

If you intend to put a scope on the receiver or install a receiver sight, and your rifle is not currently drilled and tapped, then it could be a value-added upgrade, but keep the number of holes to a minimum and have it done by a professional gunsmith.

If you need a scope do it. But are you sure its not already tapped? My 336 is, and it was made in 1964.

Its a revelation lever action which is a cheap version of a model 336 marlin. I've never shot a deer outside of 50 yds with it but I haven't carried deer hunting in close to 10 yrs now.

I would say it depends on where you are hunting and if you are using the Leverevolution stuff from Hornady. I hunt in North Ga so my shots are never over 100 yards at the most. I put TrueGlo fiber optic sights on mine and thats all I need.

What kind of 30-30? Do you mean a lever-action? If so is it a WW, Marlin, or something else?
