What exactly does MOP stand for in reference to shooting? I know MOA is 'minute of angle' but am unfamiliar with MOP. Thanks in advance for the education.

Since I started this, I should answer it! Has you know everyone is hell bent on shooting groups at 100 yards with the accuracy of less than one inch or better known as “MOA” Minute Of Angle or one inch . Generally these same individuals are the ones that will give you hell for shooting past 150 yards when they too have a rifle that shoots less than MOA and brag about one hole groups. This may be fine talking about MOA, but let’s move from the range to the field. Now we are switching the ability of shooting “MOA” to “MOP” Minute Of PiePlate. If you can hit “MOP” known as hitting a pie plate at the range your shooting, you are defiantly in the kill are or “DEER DOWN”! If you can hit ½ MOP at 100 yards then you should be able to hit MOP at 200 yards. During High Power Competition, I was shooting rapid fire with ¼ MOP at 200 yards sitting. By shooting ¼ MOP at 200 yards my effective accuracy of MOP will be 800 yards.
Bottom line!
A many hunts are ruined because the hunter has gone to great lengths of getting to their destination only to find there rifle has been bumped and the scope is off. Ok your rifle shoots 2 inches low and right at 100 yards. First of all, how far are shots normally taken? I would say less than 150 yards, more like 60 to 100 yards. You’re still shooting less than “MOP” and that’s good enough for the moment until you can resight you rifle.
IT”S ALL IN THE HEAD WITHER IT’S A SUCCESSFUL HUNT OR NOT!
Welcome!
