We all probably know the reasons for fluting a rifle barrel but other than looking cool has anyone REALLY ever noticed a difference between horizontal fluted, spiral fluted, and non-fluted?

As you know they say it helps dissipate heat, I don't know about that, but if I got fluting I think the straight flutes look the coolest.

Depends on your shooting style. I was always taught to shoot from a cold barrel, meaning one shot only. Very rarely other than target practice would I shoot from a hot barrel, but I have found that the fluting has made the cool down time much quicker between cold shots.

Many years ago in a marketing class the Professor said to sell a product you have to make it different from everything else. Looks to me like that is what's up here.

Haven't noticed a difference. It seems to reason that by fluting the barrel it makes the barrel lighter, so does it physically allow the barrel to cool quicker? It seems logical.

Well fluted barrels are obviously lighter than standard ones.

Lets you cut some weight off of heavier (stiffer) barrel profiles. Also reported to help cool barrels faster...? Marketing...?

Trophy class males (bull) can run 600 to 700 pounds.
They are quite tasty. One of the kid's work mates donated some steaks to us.
