I think I've heard Hickok45 say that when he got more popular gun places would send him guns to review, but they would expect them back; or it was understood that they would come back if he got the rifle from an intermediary.

Although, and it might be rare. Other reviewers have said they they were given firearms to keep. Specifically, I watched a video in the last week of a guy that said that FK BRNO sent him the new 7.5 fk brno psd to shoot and keep. Seems awfully generous to be freely giving away $1650 handguns, but hey stranger things have happened

I have heard it go both ways: the rifles and scopes go back or the writer sends the manufacturer some money for the rifle (that the writer probably thought was better than the other rifles he has in the same chambering). Petzal said if the rifle is a bad one he simply won't write a story / review for it since it would likely kill the sales numbers.

Think Petzal and his bespectacled, goateed cohort have written that; "No. Guns and scopes have to be returned.".
I also think that was one of those, "for the most part", statements.
i.e. they get to keep some, but not all

do Editors get to keep rifles and scopes they review ? Snow is doing 23 of them. His vault must be bulging.
