I just bought the same gun. It's my first hand gun. I am able to shoot groups at 25 yards with it but I have to take time to hold steady and slowly squeeze to do that. I find the trigger pull to be hard but have not compared it to other hand guns. I think there is an SWC model with a lighter pull.

It's not to far but I'd start off using a paper plate to shoot at and be content if all your rounds stay in it.

Thanks Jim
I have been shooting at 20 to 30 yards. Is this too far?

At what distance are you shooting your targets at? This is not a long range gun like the .460SW. I have a SW Chiefs Special .40 cal with 3in barrel and at 15yds it will put all of it's rounds into an intruders chest. Don't expect more than what your gun was designed for. Good luck

Are you accurate with other handguns? Is the pistol double action while you are used to single? Out of the box it may be a case of creepy trigger. Hard to say.

Could be a used police gun, or just had a lot of rounds put through it and has loosened up. Unload and with the gun cocked and slide forward in ready to fire condition wiggle the barrel and slide to check for excessive play between the parts. There should be some wiggle room, but to much due to wear can cause rounds to go all over the place. A new barrel and or some gun smithing may be required to tighten up your accuracy.

I have a fair amount of handgun experience, tho none with this model/caliber combo, but have you tried different brands of ammo, bullet weights, etc? Handguns can be just as finicky about diet as any long gun.

rocketman's right. Do they have a conversion kit for this pistol?
My kimber(.45) has one for .22 which is what a practice with.

I haven't had a whole lot of experience with pistols, but it might help if you get a .22. It will have less kick than a .40. Having less kick will allow you to improve your grip, sighting, recovery (getting back on target), ect.
