The only one i see with a V serial number is the Victory model 1942-1945. 240,000 mfg. But, the list does not match your description. These were 2 or 4" barrel and had no U.S.markings. Sold through the Defense Supply Commission. The book cautions to be aware of fake markings. The value of the one in the listing at 100% condition is $700.

      Jimbo,

the grip alone dates this firearm to pre 1942, I am trying to post photos for you to see, but I cannot see how. this web site is horrible.

I would take it to a gunsmith/collector to examine. It does not add up to the description in the Blue Book. A picture would not help me.

FYI The only way to post a picture is on the main web page and that is for all to see, plus, it goes into your personal photo file.

          Jimbo,

just one more thing, the revolver was handed down to my father in 1969 by my grandfather and now I have it.

check the Smith-Wessonforum I posted photos there.

Early 1942 works. You should get answers from the forum. I think Smith also has an I.D. service at the Corp. office - for a fee they would document the gun. When it was shipped and to who, that type of info.
