I bought an R1 a few months ago - almost identical to the Colt M1911A1 I carried in the Army. The differences are negligible and have no effect on the performance of the gun. I put 14 230 grain FMJs through it out of the box - hit the silhoulette 14 times in the vitals -7 were head shots - all at 25 yards. No tweeking of the sights are necessary. The white dots on the sights are an improvement over the military issue. Unlike the militaty issued weapons, you need the barrel bushing wrench to disassemble the gun. Trigger pull is a little stiff but not terrible. This is a really good gun - great balance, tight mechanism, accurate and fun to shoot. I'd recommend to anyone accustomed to shooting a major caliber weapon.
