Study Shows Mountain Lions Have Unexpected Predator | MeatEater Conservation (themeateater.com)

Interesting look at another way in which wolves have changed things. The title is a little misleading -- the study doesn't find wolf packs actively hunting down mountain lions like a hound pack or anything -- but it's still interesting.

Matt thanks for the post, wolves are really amazing predators and majestic animals to watch . Truly a apex predator but I feel they have no business being reintroduced back in the lower 48 states. Natural expansion would have been better but these wolf advocates let a fox go in the hen house.
Wolves have on predator and laws stop the wolf from be harvested , starvation is not a factor because of the bountiful food supply of game and livestock available in the lower 48 states and the wolfs natural habits of traveling over vast areas in search of food . It is a foolish venture to have these animals reintroduce so a few can go to Yellowstone to see them .

There is virtually no need or reason to reintroduce any apex predator into today’s world. It is only the extreme whacko environmentalists who are pushing this agenda in the first place. If there is a need for such ‘animals’ , that need will be filled by natural expansion on its own ! If that expansion should, or does not happen, there is probably a reason and man should not be involved ! It is usually those who push these ideas of reintroduction that are not confronted with the consequences and thus do not have a dog in the fight !!

Wolves could be a solution to the feral hog population problem in some places.

With the knowledge and data that wildlife biologists have on record, there is no reason why man can't control the population of any wild animal ... well ... except for feral hogs.
When the private sector decides to address a problem, get out of the way!

Scientists claim it is possible with DNA to create prehistoric apex animals. If this is true, how long before theses wackos step across that line ? Just where is the line drawn on this issue ??

Possibly, but the places where feral hogs are a problem, typically, they're a problem because it isn't a wilderness area, i.e. an area with farms, homes and livestock. There are problems with the reintroduction of wolves even out in the far-seeing lands, so in the denser, close quarters of the east, midwest, and south, it'd likely be a matter of ending up with two problem animals instead of one reducing the other.

If our bandicoot thinks there are enough wolves to put a dent in the feral pig population, it is impossible to think that thought could enter the brain of a normal person ! Only a bandicoot could ever pose such nonsense, and in his own words........just saying !!!!
