      The Eagles!

Standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona,
Such a fine sight to see --
      It's a girl, my Lord, in a flat-bed Ford,
Slowin' down to take a look at me .....

Oh, wait, it's not Friday yet, is it? Sorry.

Nope! But between Winslow and Flagstaff is a town called "Winona"!

        Standing on a corner
        In Winona, Arizona ....?

Camp Verde area. Terrible place during road construction. Lane closures and sudden traffic speed reductions make for skid marks inside and outside the vehicle.

A very descriptive explanation franchi of nervous conditions on the road. I will be chuckling over that for some time, thanks.

I hate it when that happens.

My b-i-l drove OTR several years.
His favorite story was coming down a pass somewhere in Montana with 35k pounds of clean cast iron scrap.
He was in the sleeper when he felt the truck jerking and jumping around.
He stuck his head out of the sleeper and noticed the driver dodging traffic.
"This is a bad time to tell you this, but we don't have brakes!", the driver yelled as they hurtled down the pass.
A Montana state trooper tried to stop them. Thankfully, they got it across to the trooper what was going on.
The trooper, lights flashing, led them down the mountain side!!!
                      YEE! HAW!
...until the trooper pulled over and they shot of down the mountain full tilt!
On flat ground, they finally brought the run-a-way to a stop.
When the trooper finally showed up an walked up to them, the driver went off on him, "Where the hell did you go?"
The trooper smiled as he began writing tickets, "That cruiser won't do but 120."

I've done some OTR, but don't consider myself anything of a real "gear jammer"! LOL!
...but I DO know that on 18 miles of 6% grade, if you don't have your wits about you, you can get in a jam in a heartbeat!

They can say there is a "shortage of drivers" if they want, but fully one third of all traffic we dealt with was semi's!
Bet we saw somewhere in the neighborhood of 30 to 40 trains over a mile long loaded COFC!
One train was fully double stacked with JB Hunt Trucking containers!
Somebody, somewhere is pulling SOMEbody's leg!!!

fitch270, the wife was driving so I was eyeballing the semi's and what they were doing, just waiting to see if one had smoking brakes or some other signs of "UH-OH"!
Watched brake lights coming on and going off, on and off, on and off. Not once did I hear a "Jake brake".
We were sailing down the road at 75 MPH, me a bit nervous, but all went well.
                        No wrecks!
                        No run-a-ways!
                        No close calls!
                        Whew!

Headed back to Flagstaff. Falling down into Camp Verde, there was a Stevens Transport sitting on the shoulder, smoke billowing out from the trailer! The odor of scorched brakes strong as we blew past him.

                          Tried to get a shot of the "run-a-way".... I wasn't quick enough!🙁
Think I'd almost prefer the mountainside to the run-a-way.
I think the run-a-way just gives the recovery crew more recognizable pieces to pick up! 🤔

Ernie, as I studied this photo and the 16 mile site range, it dawned on me!

The mountain in this photo (such as it is!) is nearly 30 miles away. It's actually just north of Flagstaff!

                                WHAT? 😳
Then we need a new cartridge! LOL!

Maybe neck down a 105mm to shoot thirty cal?!
Don't know about recoil, but we can work that out later!

Can you imagine figuring out all the logistics of making a shot like that?
