Estwing is real good and comes in 'hand' ax size and a longer handle 'camp' size. Within your budget.

I have a Collins camp axe with a two-pound head that I think highly of, and an Estwing No.1 with leather washer handle an integral 1 1/2 pound head.
The Collins was cheap, but the Estwing was about $35 ten years ago.

I have two different sized Estwings, and they are the only brand I would reccomend that is within your budget.

am not a big GERBER man, but I do have a one of their camp axes. Performed OK so far. I use then camping to cut firewood. Two or three times I was driving on logging roads in a national forest and a tree blocked my exit. (not a big tree). The camp axe performed well those times.

I have had my Fiskars hatchet for about 13 years and it is as good as the day I got it!

Snow and Nealey make what they call the Hudson Bay Camping Axe, which is really a large hatchet with the head and balance of an axe. Probably more like $60 brand new.

It really depends what you want to use it for, But I also vote for Estwing.I also like my multi purpose ones, Rothco makes a cheeper version but its handy when you need it.
