                  The other answers are good but if your [email protected]# would have not got lost in the first place you would'nt need any of this other stuff including a COMPASS !

                    Either your mind, because you gotta keep your mind right or it would have to be a knife... can do about anything with a knife, light a fire, cut some wood, and even use it to eat and kill something with as a spear... just about everything.

                          After reading Gary Paulsen's books "Hatchet" and "Brian's Winter" I would say a hatchet and of course your mind.

                            Assuming I'm in my right mind, I would put the big honking knife right at the top o the list. The cutting tool is what makes fire and shelter possible.
