my field points group well, but when I shoot my slick trick broadheads, the give me about a 12" group. why is this? do I need to spend even more money and get different broadheads? this is at 30 yards.

I am by no means an archery technician. Have you tried any other broadheads. Is your rest well tuned is it a drop away or a whisker bisket. Are the slicks the only broadhead you have tried. I can only guess is that with the four blades maybe its causing too much drag at that slower speed and pulling it off.

If it were a tuning issue, I would expect your arrows to group well but in a different spot that where you're aiming. If your groups are 12" then perhaps you may need to work on shooting form (Solid stance and good follow through). When you put fixed blade broad heads on an arrow, it will magnify everything you're doing wrong. Every twitch, every dropped shoulder, every torque, etc. Mechanical broad heads tend to be more forgiving but you might not be shooting an appropriate draw weight for them to deploy.
Try working on your shooting form first, but you may need to try different broad heads as well to find out what works best for your bow set-up. Just so you're not out a bunch of money, resell the broad heads that don't work for you on Ebay.
