I found a Heddon Mark IV Model 3200 fishing reel in a tool chest today. It looks old but is in good condition. As far as I know Heddon doesn't make reels anymore. Does anyone know when this reel might have been made?

Take a look around on Ebay. I ran across one of these a year or so ago, its worth around 25-35 bucks. Not all that old, should be able to get some good info from some of the listing on Ebay.

Hello and good luck with the reel. It was made for a number of years during the late fifties and early sixties and was the first reel with a level wind that you could fold down out of the way for casting. The father of the reel was Robert (Bob) Baenziger. He was also instrumental in the design of the first completely disengaging level wind reel which was the LEW CHILDRE Speed Spool. Almost every bait cast reel today uses Bob's Disengaging level wind. Bob just passed away a few months ago and was one of the unsung heros of the fishing world. Just before his death he was also involved in the design of the new US REEL SuperCaster bait casting reel. Go to usreel.com and you can see the able levelwind that he designed.
