Hey guys, been a while. I'm in the market for a new spinning reel for targeting redfish, specs, and the like. Any recommendations? As far as price goes, today is my birthday so I have a little extra money to help me out, but a Diawa saltiga is still not in my price range. Thanks!

First off, I personally use baitcast reels for Red Fish because I like a winch to reel the big ones off Dixie Bar in. But if a spinning reel is the reel of your choice, go back and read some of my older posts where I explain how a spinning reel works and the line twist that they eventually end up with. I always recommend that if you use a spinning reel try to get the largest spool diameter that you can find. I would get the Johnny Morris Signature series JM40 in 6.1:1 from BPS as my first choice because it has a large diameter spool and a good smooth drag system. Since you will be using the drag a lot with Reds, one twist will end up in the line for every wrap of line around the spool while the drag is actually slipping. Do not crank the reel handle while the drag is slipping because that will multiply the number of line twists by the gear ratio of the reel.
