It sure would be nice to have one of the many kayak/canoe manufacturers comment on this. I'm sure they must have ads in F&S magazine...

thanks everyone, I had been putting it right side up , and while it sits fine, the softer part of the kayak tends to bend a little too much for my liking while secured. I think I'll be flipping it up side down or tossing it in the truck, thanks

I load mine upside down because it rains frequently in the Northwest and, when placed right-side-up, a kayak or canoe will collect a lot of water! Beyond that, it's a matter of aerodynamics; if the hull tends to lift at freeway speeds, you do well to turn it over. In my case, my kayaks ride better upside-down.

It depends on how it rides better for you. The contour of the boat often creates lift that works it loose. I carry most small boats right side up because the air seems to pass over them more smoothly. Upside down is certainly better in the rain and snow. If it rides OK that way, I'd do that.

I'd say upside down. I carried my canoe upside down. It is most secure that way.

Hi...
As one who has carried several different boats on my vehicles (none of them were kayaks)...I always carried them upside down. They were easier to load (for me, anyway), and couldn't fill up with water.

I go right side up thinking it is more aerodynamic concerning the force of air off the windshield.

Depends if you are expecting rain. I always put mine on upside down so that was not a problem.
