If you really want brook trout, you need to look in the rivers and streams. Hence the "brook" part. Any good "trout looking" stream is worth your while up there. Just ask around. It won't be hard information to find. The northern Connecticut River and anything that feeds it are good places to start. Shadow lake is pretty popular. Memphremagog is nice and big and borders Quebec. Lots of fishing there. Also the Black River is there as well as others, all good. Lake Seymour and Echo Lake are close and connected. Fish where they meet. Generally, the Northeastern corner of VT is about the best place for brookies on the planet, so just find the good looking streams.

Maybe try Google Earth, try searching a brook trout stream that you know and follow it back...beavers make some good trout ponds!
