I have a few mystery trout lures. They are like tiny money clips with hooks. Some are gold, some are silver. They all have red diamonds on them. They are deadly on western trout. What are these things called? I can't remember for the life of me.

Sounds like some kind of spoon with stones/beads on it to create flash.

Red diamonds rather than dots? Or red dots in a diamond shape?

the beads are usually used to creat a flash as well as eyes.

Other than the red diamonds, they sound like a super duper.

Super Duper is about right, but mine are a little different.

I always wondered how you fish those things.

I think they are "super dupers". Would have to "see" one though.

If dots, then they are likely Jake's Spin-a-lures.

You're right, they are Jakes Spin-a-Lures. Very similar to Super Dupers.

Super Dupers are fished slow, with no swivel. They're designed to roll in one direction, causing the lure to move sideways in that direction. When enough twist builds up in the line, the direction of roll will reverse, causing the lure to move sideways in the other direction. Overall action is a big zig zag toward the fisherman. If a swivel is used, the roll rarely reverses and the lure only moves sideways in one direction. They work great for me in beaver ponds, where a slow retrieve seems more productive and lures like spoons or weighed spinners need a faster retrieve to not drag bottom. I've heard people say they use the Super Duper in fast water, but doesn't seem to work for me.
