If you are using braid, go with something heavier, there is no reason not to, and a 9 foot shark is a very impressive animal.

I personally use 85 at a minimum with a good leader. Like Greenhead said, 9' is a LOT to contend with. They're all muscle and teeth. I've wrestled quite a few out of the surf, and even a little 6 footer can be a task for a lighter braid. Go big if you can.

A 9 foot shark is pretty strong. They don't run fast but they pull like a horse at that size. Bigger is better but 65 lb will work as long as you have at least 600 yards on the spool; especially if you are fishing from a boat where you can run them down if necessary. If you are expecting a shark that big, why not spool up with 120 lb line?

I would bump up the strength. In my opinion use no less than 85 pounds.
