I'm mounting a Minn kota Edge bow mount trolling motor on an aluminum v-hull. It seems like you have to take out 4 screws, 2 on each side of the plastic motor guide on the front of the bracket to install some of the mounting bolts. Has anyone had to do this?

Make that six screws, three a side.

Yes, I also had to do this. If I recall correctly, I had to loosen or remove these in order to get the mounting bolts in. Then I put them back in. It seems like they are there to prevent the mounting bolts from backing out, but that's just my guess. It didn't seem like they served any other purpose.

BTW, I hope you have better luck than me with your directional indicator (arrow). Mine stopped turning -- it's useless. So, I opened up the top and tried to re-align all the gears and parts to make it work. It worked for about 15 minutes on my next trip, but then gave out again. It's really, really annoying to have it not working. I can only tell what direction my motor is pointing by turning it on and seeing where it pushes me (really frustrating when fishing in fast current like on Upper Potomac river). If it wasn't for that, I'd be very happy with my Minn Kota Edge.
