First off, just what are you trying to accomplish? Do the grips need repair or are you just trying to protect them. If you are trying to protect them during storage, old cotton socks will keep them clean. But if you want to seal them up to prevent mildew or other similar type damage, plain old common latex prophylactics (one size fits all) will work fine. Heat shrink tubing can be used over repairs. Spray on flocking can be added to give texture. There are even a number of dip products at the hardware stores which are designed for coating hand tools such as pliers handles that will work also.
