Salt water = blue marlin; a hook up is always a rush

Fresh water = Salmon/trout from the great lakes. They swim at about 20 mph, hit hard and get arial.

Freshwater- Largemouth bass on topwaters in the early morning.
Saltwater- Spanish mackerel, on light tackle, when they are running by and taking bait or lures. They hit like a freight train.

Fresh (not red) Alaska sockeye salmon are the toughest fighters pound for pound. Even the mighty rainbow pales by comparison. They'll give you everything: tarpon walk, jump after jump after jump, and they can run out a hundred yards of line in a blink. Damn they are STRONG!

Native brook trout, with small-river smallmouth bass being a close second.

No saltwater experience, but after watching Jeremy Wade on River Monsters the other night, I've been thinking a lot about tarpon.

Fresh Water would be the King Salmon in Lake Ontario, New York or trout in Yellowstone Lake, Wyoming.

Salt Water fishing in Kona, Hawaii or the Outer Banks of North Carolina fishing for the Blue Marlin, Wahoo, Tuna or Mahi-Mahi.
