I would agree with them about smelling the better. Catfish have scent receptors and they use the whiskers to "try out" the bait before they eat it. In other words, if it doesn't stink, it won't attract them very well.

It all depends on the type of cat. For bullheads, a piece of hot dog or a nightcrawler can't be beat. For Channel cats, cut bait, stinkbait, or chicken liver work.Go with a live bluegill for flatheads. for big blues, use cut bait.

Sonny's stink bait works best...you get bites in almost every cast.

My favorite bait for channel cats, especially big channel cats, is bluegills. I scale and fillet them but leave the skin on for toughness so they will stay on the hook. I believe big channel cats either evolve into a predetor or they were born predetors and is the reason they get so much bigger than their cousins out slurping up stinky stuff. I never use anything rotten for catfishing always fresh even if it is livers and I only use livers when the kids are with me so we can catch those little ones. I think scaling the bluegill helps to release juices into the water that drive big cats crazy give it a try next time.

            Thanks

You seriously should look at Benny Roberts SureShot catfish punch bait. Been using it for years. If you do decide to try it, make sure you read how Benny recommends using it. SureShot can ONLY be found at www.catfishbait.net
