Breadcrumbs, Dog food, Cat food, Bacon, Hot dogs are useful and nice working bait for the minnow. But also you should know the Placement of Trap and Bait. I think my article about minnow trap bait can help you.

Best thing I've ever used was at the recommendation of an old bait shop over in Detroit Lakes MN. CHEETOS! I put cheetos in my trap after trying everything else with very little success... 3 hours later, you couldn't stuff any more shiners in that trap! And at 50 cents a piece around here... it was like a gold mine! Been using cheetos ever since.

Dry cat food is pretty good, but if you are going to leave it in the water for a while a can of catfood with the lid cracked a little works pretty good.

like muskie master said dog food works well. I like to use dry dog food in moving water and wet dog food in still water mixed with dry dog food.

A combination of all of the above will be best. Fish have good senses of smell, so styrofoam alone won't work as well. The variety of bread as well as meat will attract a larger variety of fish, because some fish are vegetarians, some are detritovores, and some are carnivorous.

I have never tried it but I have heard bubble gum works too and doesn't dissolve. I always used crushed saltines though.

All the above are good, but I just learned a small piece of styrofome works too(looks like bread and don't disolve. Put it in a piece of bag that comes off of a ham or somthing simular.

Use hotdog chunks and bread chunks together for the best results and variety.
