what is the best bait for a minnow trap?

A slice of bread torn into pieces about the size of a marble or a little smaller or coarsley crushed saltines usually work. You might also attract the odd crayfish.

Use hotdog chunks and bread chunks together for the best results and variety.

All the above are good, but I just learned a small piece of styrofome works too(looks like bread and don't disolve. Put it in a piece of bag that comes off of a ham or somthing simular.

I have never tried it but I have heard bubble gum works too and doesn't dissolve. I always used crushed saltines though.

A combination of all of the above will be best. Fish have good senses of smell, so styrofoam alone won't work as well. The variety of bread as well as meat will attract a larger variety of fish, because some fish are vegetarians, some are detritovores, and some are carnivorous.

Torn up slice of bread for me! I've filled the minnow trap with one slice.

like muskie master said dog food works well. I like to use dry dog food in moving water and wet dog food in still water mixed with dry dog food.

Dry cat food is pretty good, but if you are going to leave it in the water for a while a can of catfood with the lid cracked a little works pretty good.

Dont use onions. But if you put red coolade, garlic, choped up hotdogs works really well.
