A couple of friends and I are going on a week long trip to Dale Hollow Lake next month. I've never been there before and know nothing about the lake other than that it's cold enough for trophy smallmouth bass and lake trout. Can anyone give me some tips on what to fish for and what methods to use? We'll be spending our week on the Kentucky portion of the lake, if that makes a difference.

some good, long cast flys and some nice brightly colored plasticc crawdads and jig those around. also, some live minnow wouldnt b bad for the small mouth.

Article in this months Field and Stream on drop shooting for Small mouth, this has worked well for me if you have a fish finder and can locate fish and structures. Trolling plugs and spoons can also be a good thing to try in new water, you cover a lot of water, and should catch both bass and trout.

Some neighbors went down there every year specifically for largemouth bass. They always fished with big live minnows. Never could figure that out - smallmouths are a lot more fun and I think the record smallmouth came from there. Be sure to stop in some bait shops, buy a couple of items, and ask about the fishing. Should be a blast.
