The river I fish is very shallow, therefore we do a lot of site casting. The lure that works best for me is a small (1.5 inch) crawdad. While they are sucking the sludge off the rocks you cast it about 15-20 feet in front of them and bring it right to their nose. When they don't scare from the splash of the lure, they are very skiddish, I would say I hook up with them about 70% of the time.

It depends on the area you're fishing. Bowfishing carp is great if you're into it. They'll hit high and low, depending on the season and area, so I'd say dough balls on the bottom, and just a plain hook with 2 kernels of corn to float. But that's what works here.
