Congrats! Sounds like you've got yourself some tasty eating. Three pounds is about as big as they get around here. I've caught several at the three pound mark over the years and a few an ounce or two over.

The biggest crappie I have caught was while I was fishing for bass in the small pond out in the middle of no where. I was using a Rebel popper ( the big one) and I caught one about 3 pounds on the popper. Now I know why they are called paper mouths, I almost lost him from setting the hooks too hard.

About a foot long and a couple inches in diameter. Man that one hurt coming out! LOL I have never actually fished for crappie, but that sounds like a nice catch to me.

My friend caught one while we were bluegill fishing that was 17" , but the biggest one I have caught is 15" and I threw mine in another buddies pond.

Largest crappie ever caught was just over 4lbs, caught in a private lake,

In a large public lake the largest caught was 3.3lbs.

The biggest crappie I have ever caught was 2.2 pounds. My wife and I were fishing on kentucky lake.

The biggest black crappie I've caught was 3.2lbs out of Johns lake in Clermont, Fl. I caught my biggest white crappie trolling in little Lake Harris, Fl. It weighed in at 3.5lbs. Icaught it it the same place my dad caught a 13.4lb largemouth bass.

Wow, y'all catch some big fish. My largest black crappie went 2.5 lbs, which I was very proud of until II read these post. LOL
