  • Hookless Flies for Gar

    Interesting way of fishing.

It's really kind of amazing, all the different ways we have of catching fish.

That has been going on for years on Lake Texhoma. Most just frazzle out about four to six inches of soft nylon rope, or cord, and attach it to a hookless spinner bait, one that has some flash.

Wife and I were canoeing in the Brazos river near Hearne, TX.
We were in a 17 foot AlumaCraft.
I looked off the port gunwale as a HUGE gar surfaced about 2 feet from the canoe! He was nearly as long as the canoe!
I began scratching through my tackle box for a lure when my wife spotted the gar.
      "What are you doing?"
"Making a lure to catch that gar!"
Boy, THAT wasn't the right answer to her question! LOL!
I got a lure and tried, but he didn't bite!

I heard Velcro can work pretty good.

In an episode of "Dual Survival," Cody Lundin put some bait inside his sock and let it dangle under a streambank for eels. Same thing, apparently the eels bite and don't let go.

I remember seeing that. There little teeth got stuck. Pretty neat to see and clever.
