I have caught several snakes on topwater frog lures, I have a small pond near my home that is over run with snakes, they will go after topwater frogs and you can get a good hookset on them.

If I am reading your question correctly you are looking for a lure that mimmicks a snake? I think your best bet would be a long 9" worm Texas rigged without the bullet weight.

Fish a big worm on top with no weight. I have had good success crawling such a rig over lilly pads for bas and Chain Pickerel

Doug Hannon has made a lure that looks like a snake swimming on the surface. You can buy it at bassprofessor.com.
You can see a video of it at:

That is a cool lure but I don't know if I'd pay $40 for the package. Fish eat lizzards and frogs too.

You can catch the snakes and use'em. But another alternative is the Mann's Hardnose Snake. You can get them at Cabela's for 3-5 dollars for like 10 of'em. They are da bomb. The bass just explode on them. Match the colors to local snakes.

FYI, I just went to luresonline.com and bought several 10 packs of the Mann's Hardnose Snakes for $1.45 a pack.

to heck with those fish and to heck with the snakes. Find somewhere else to fish. Just my opinion!

I have been texas rigging a plastic worm without weight for years with great results. The "auger tail" or long tailed ones have a little better action to them, but a regular curly tail will work in a pinch.

I wouldn’t spend that much on a 10/22 but I might on a bolt gun. For that kind of money I expect some style to go with it, of the Cooper or Annie level....
