Be there early so you can have a good days fishing in before the gazillion jet-skis, powerboats, and booze cruisers hit the water(usually around 11am). I just fished from a 14ft jonboat so mid-day on that lake could get downright hairy. I fished there quite a bit when I lived in VA. I mostly fished from Becky's Creek(near Hale's Ford Bridge) and upstream. If you are going for small/largemouth bass the creeks are a really good bet right now as a lot of fish are moving to or on beds. I usually skipped the sight fishing because of the heavy pressure those fish receive. I always had luck just throwing a Pop-R in the morning and as the day progressed throwing crankbaits and football jigs on deep water docks, rocky points, and steep brush banks. Trolling shiners on points will catch everything in the lake from catfish, to stripers, and both species of bass. Watch your depth finder around points if you find an offshore hump there will almost always be bait and bass on it.

Fish the points with a carolina or texas rigged, worm, tube, or some other soft plastic bait. ALl of the bigger fish have all ready finished spawning. Hit the points from 10ft out to 25 ft of water. Fish nice and slow and you will catch some. Like vtbluegrass said, fish early, or fish late. If you dont like fishing soft plastics, a crankbait that dive between 8ft-12ft will also produce plenty of fish, cast it parallel to shore and you will have good luck, especially around holiday island.
