Bass in private ponds may be less wary if they don't get much fishing pressure.
There were two studies done recently that showed that some bass are less catchable than other fish. The studies are written about in this months In-Fisherman and I think they did a blog about them on F&S a while ago. So basically anywhere you go there will be some bass that are catchable and some that aren't. Fish that don't see much pressure may be less likely to be lure shy and therefore the private pond fish may seem more aggressive. You are lucky to have access to private water. Go get 'em!

thanks chuckles. i dont get to fish the pond much but im trying to get full permision there. the largemouth in the front pond seem uncatchable half the time but the big smallmouth in the back pond are very aggressive. i thought that lake bass would be more aggressive due to the fact that they may not me fed as much and there is as much to eat due to competition with other fish.
