I'm going camping and I'll be doing a lot of fishing from the bank and from canoes. I can only take one rod so which should I take: my abu garcia silver max on a 6'6" rod, or my okuma saline combo on a 7 foot rod?

A shorter rod is typically easier to manage in the situations you describe. A 2 piece 6 footer would be even better. Time for a new rod for the collection .

If only had those 2 choices, I'd go with the 6'6" rod. I personally would use a 6' rod with an open face spincast reel. Many of the rivers I fish here in MI have dense brush and branches in prime spots to cast. The shorter rod allows you to get in tight where a longer rod might get caught up in the mess of brush.

Thanks for the input. I just bought a Diawa D-Shock 6 foot rod and reel combo for $20, so I'll take that instead.
