A lot depends on personal preference, what you expect to catch, where you will be fishing and type of terminal tackle. I prefer a medium heavy 6' rod for walleyes. More important i want a rod and line set up that transfers the bait action(if any) and bite back up to the handle of the pole. I test this in the store when they have the 12" square type tile floors. When i slide the rod tip over the seam between two pieces of tile i want to feel it back up in the handle when it crosses the seam in the tile. I have some Shakespear Boron rods that do that. You may find that two or three rods may be necessary to cover most of your fishing situations. Trial and error in picking one, but when you get the right one you will know it. good fishing. jim
