Until the water hits about 50 deg. They will be staging at the edge of the first drop off from shallow water. After the water warms they will move shallow into the warmest water they can find. Usually the north end of lakes or in shallow water with dark bottom. Also around wood or rocks that help the water warm up. An area with a combination of these factors will almost always hold bass this time of year. These are pre spawn bass and they are hungry.
If cold fronts come through they will move back off into deeper water. Anthing that makes the water colder will turn them off or send them deeper. Anything that makes it warmer will turn them on. No need to go out early in the AM, the bite often doesn't turn on till later in the day. Happy fishing!

I just went fishing today I live in central wisconsin and the water temp. still isn't right they are not moving they sit on the bottom and unless you can see them in the water and put a bait in front of them they won't chase. Like today we had no success but it was still fun being back out in the boat again I've been fishing walleye off shore on the river.
