I just broke one of my one piece rods (shimano) right above the first loop. how should i fix it.

If you mean first from the tip, you can buy a new tip top, the final guide that slides over the tip of the rod. You will need to buy a bigger one to fit over the larger diameter of the rod at the break. You can find them at most larger sporting goods stores, or www.mudhole.com.
They go on with hot glue. I have found the easiest way to do it is to shave off some glue with a knife and put it in the tip, and then hit the whole thing with a lighter while holding it in pliers.
Depending on where the last guide is, you may want to remove it. If this is the case, very carefully cut it off with a razor blade. It is affixed to the rod with thread coated in epoxy. If you are lucky, you can get it started and just unravel the thread.
The action of the rod won't be the same as it was before the break, but it might beat buying a new rod.
